The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has referred criminal proceedings to the Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Criminal Offences of State Institutions to initiate criminal prosecution against a former State Border Guard employee and three other individuals. The suspicions concern bribery in the cargo transport sector.

Charges have been brought against the border guard, who is currently on leave from service. He is accused of accepting bribes. Three other private individuals are suspected of offering bribes within an organised group. All suspects are associated with a cargo transport company.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated under the Criminal Law provisions that provide for penalties for accepting and offering bribes. Members of the organised group face stricter penalties.

The IDB has conducted an investigation and submitted the case to the prosecutor's office for the initiation of criminal prosecution. The court proceedings lie ahead.
