The State Security Service has asked the prosecution to initiate criminal proceedings against four Latvian citizens who, using the organisation "Baltic Antifascists", have collected information in Latvia and passed it to Russian special services.

The State Security Service (VDD) has appealed to the prosecution with a request to initiate criminal proceedings against four Latvian citizens who are suspected of spying for Russia.
According to information provided by the VDD, the suspects have been operating using the organisation "Baltic Antifascists". They are said to have collected intelligence information on Latvian territory and subsequently passed it to Russian special services.
The Service made this information public on 6 July. The request to initiate criminal proceedings is the next step following the investigation, which will allow the case to proceed to court.
Spying and cooperation with foreign intelligence services is one of the most serious offences against state security. Latvia's Criminal Law provides for strict penalties for such conduct.
