The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has referred a criminal case to prosecutors against one of the employees of the Prison and Probation Administration. Suspicions have been raised regarding the unauthorised delivery of mobile phones and other communications equipment behind bars.
During the investigation, the bureau gathered evidence that the accused employee brought unauthorised items into the detention facility and kept them there, including devices that would allow communication with the outside world. Such conduct endangers prison security and would assist convicted persons in breaching regulations.
For such a violation, the law provides for imprisonment of up to five years, and probation, forced labour, or a monetary fine may also be imposed.
