Dombrava refers suspected irregular payments in disaster management centres construction to Prosecutor General
Interior minister has identified repeated cost overruns in individual disaster management centre projects. An official has been suspended from duties and an internal audit has been launched.
Minister submits information to Prosecutor's Office regarding suspected construction costs
Interior Minister Jānis Dombrava (NA) has referred the matter to the Prosecutor General's Office after identifying several signs of uneconomical conduct in the assessment of individual disaster management centre construction projects, TVNET reports.
"I have identified several very uneconomical and suspicious matters, where multiple cost items show repeated overpricing, which requires independent and in-depth evaluation," Dombrava stated.
Given the nature of the findings, the minister has provided available information to the Prosecutor General's Office for independent investigation of the situation. At the Interior Ministry, an official responsible for the relevant area has been suspended from the performance of official duties and an internal audit has been launched.
Initially, in 2026, eight new disaster management centres were planned to be handed over to the services — in Alūksne, Talsi, Tukums, Kuldīga, Preiļi, Sigulda, Rīga (Bolderāja) and Jūrmala (Dzintari). Each centre was intended to house the State Fire and Rescue Service, the State Police, the Emergency Medical Service, the Citizenship and Migration Affairs Administration and the State Border Guard in one location.
