Internal Security Bureau recommends charging Imprisonment Administration official over unauthorised communications devices smuggled into prison
The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has sent a criminal case to the Vidzeme Prosecutor's Office to initiate criminal prosecution against an official of the Imprisonment Administration. Suspicions have been raised regarding the unauthorised introduction and storage of communications devices at a place of imprisonment.
Such conduct may indicate corrupt activities and security breaches at a state detention facility. The illegal smuggling of communications devices into prisons creates risks both to internal order and to investigations.
The Prosecutor's Office will now evaluate the materials provided by the IDB and decide on whether to bring charges.
