On Sunday around 4pm, State Police in Bauska detained the driver of a quad bike who fled from law enforcement with a minor son as a passenger and refused to undergo an alcohol test.

At around four o'clock on Sunday afternoon in Bauska, near a shop on Vītolu Street, patrolling police officers noticed a quad bike without a registration number. The vehicle was being driven by a man without a helmet, and a small child was sitting next to him.
When the service vehicle switched on flashing lights and a siren, the driver fled. Law enforcement repeatedly asked him to stop via loudspeaker, but the driver did not comply and continued driving along a pedestrian path, crossing Salātu and Kļavu Streets.
He stopped only at the intersection of Ceriņu and Mazā Streets. The child, who had been sitting in the front seat, then got out of the vehicle.
During detention, it became clear that the man was under the influence of alcohol — his breath smelled of alcohol. He threw a bottle of spirits on the ground, behaved aggressively towards police officers, shouted and swore. He categorically refused to undergo an alcohol concentration test.
A criminal case has now been opened against him for refusing an alcohol test. In addition, ten administrative violation cases have been initiated: for failure to ensure child safety, non-compliance with police orders, fleeing from patrol, driving on a pavement, failure to wear a helmet, transporting too many passengers, absence of a registration plate, absence of third-party liability insurance, lack of technical inspection, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
The young boy was placed in his mother's care. The law provides for a warning or a fine of up to 210 euros for failure to fulfil child care obligations.
