The Internal Security Bureau has initiated criminal prosecution against a Detention Service employee for the illegal bringing and storage of communications devices in a place of detention.

The Internal Security Bureau (ISB) has referred a criminal case to the Vidzeme Prosecutor's Office to initiate criminal prosecution against a Detention Service official. The charges are based on suspicions of bringing in and storing unauthorised communications devices in a prison facility.
Information available to the Bureau indicates that the official under suspicion brought prohibited communications devices into and kept them within a place of detention. Such conduct is in breach of the restrictions provided for by law and poses a threat to the security of places of detention.
For such an offence, the law provides for deprivation of liberty of up to five years, probation supervision, community service, or a monetary fine.
