An Estonian citizen fled from police on a motorcycle from Bauska to Ķekava, exceeding the speed limit and creating dangerous situations. The man was issued a €6,700 fine and his driving licence was withdrawn for three years.

Last week, officers from the State Police's Zemgale region department stopped a motorcycle driver who fled from law enforcement from Bauska municipality to Ķekava municipality, exceeding the permitted driving speed and ignoring repeated orders to stop the vehicle.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 31 May, at approximately 13.00. While patrolling in Codes parish along the A7 road towards Bauska, the radar of a police patrol vehicle detected a motorcycle travelling at 126 km/h, although the permitted speed on this section is 70 km/h. Moreover, the symbols on the vehicle's state registration plate were deliberately obscured with a sticker.
Law enforcement immediately attempted to stop the motorcycle by switching on beacons and sound signals. The driver responded by increasing speed and fleeing. Information about the incident was also passed to the Iecava team of Bauska municipality police.
In Iecava, at the intersection between the A7 motorway and the P93 road, the municipal police team attempted to block the road with a marked service vehicle to stop the fleeing motorcyclist, but failed to do so. The man continued to flee through Iecava city along Rīga Street, creating several dangerous situations and violating a number of traffic regulations.
State Police officers repeatedly demanded in Latvian and English that the vehicle be stopped, but the motorcyclist did not respond and continued to flee, increasing speed. The pursuit continued along the A7 motorway towards Rīga until Ķekava parish, where the motorcyclist performed a braking manoeuvre without assessing traffic intensity. Police then detained the man, who turned out to be an Estonian citizen.
Six administrative violation proceedings were initiated against the detainee for exceeding the speed limit, concealing the state registration plate, and aggressive driving, which manifested itself as repeated lane changes, overtaking in the opposite direction lane, and exceeding the speed limit. The total monetary fine reached €6,700, and the man's driving licence was withdrawn for three years.
A criminal case was also initiated against him for violation of road traffic regulations, which manifested itself as aggressive driving following a repeated order from a competent institution official to stop the vehicle. Under the Criminal Law, such a violation carries a penalty of deprivation of liberty for up to two years, probation supervision, community service, or a fine, with driving licence withdrawal for up to five years.
