An Audi was stolen in Rēzekne district on the night of 22 June. Police found the vehicle, but its driver, a boy born in 2009, ignored the stop signal and attempted to flee.

On the night of 22 June, the State Police received a report that an Audi automobile had disappeared from a private house courtyard in Sakstagala parish, Rēzekne district. Law enforcement immediately began searching for the stolen vehicle.
At approximately 1.28 a.m., police officers spotted the sought-after vehicle in Ciskādi village, travelling in the direction of Ozolmuiža parish. After activating flashing lights and sirens on their service vehicle, the officers ordered the car to stop, but its driver refused and continued to flee, exceeding the speed limit.
Following a pursuit, police officers managed to stop the vehicle. It turned out that the Audi had been stolen by a youth born in 2009, who was also driving it. This person had previously come to the attention of law enforcement — for driving under the influence.
A criminal case has been opened against the boy under several sections of the Criminal Law: for vehicle theft by unlawful entry (section 175, part 3); for breach of regulations in failing to comply with a stop order (section 259.1); and for evading punishment (section 312, part 2).
Vehicle theft is punishable by imprisonment of up to five years, a short-term prison sentence, probation, community service, or a fine. For the other offences — up to one year in prison or other applicable penalties.
The car was returned to its owner.
