Four people detained in Latvia for sexual abuse of animals
Latvian law enforcement has detained a group of four people suspected of years-long sexual abuse of animals at an animal shelter, including filming the acts. Among those detained are two local residents, one dual citizen of Scandinavia and Switzerland, and a Russian citizen.

Law enforcement in Latvia has completed an operation during which a group of four people was detained on suspicion of prolonged sexual abuse of animals and illegal creation of pornographic material.
Police, together with the VID Tax and Customs Police, received information at the end of 2025 about suspected animal cruelty. This information prompted an investigation, which revealed that since at least 2021, sexual acts involving animals have regularly taken place at an animal shelter in Latvia. During these events, several individuals engaged in sexual acts with animals while simultaneously filming and photographing the acts.
During a search of the premises in question, officers removed all animals linked to the illegal activities. Additionally, money was seized — more than four thousand euros, which is believed to have been obtained through criminal means.
Four people have been identified as suspects. Two of them are Latvian nationals. One holds dual citizenship of Denmark and Switzerland, whilst the fourth holds Russian citizenship. All have been subjected to security measures without deprivation of liberty, including a complete ban on contact with animals.
An interesting fact — the dual citizen of Denmark and Switzerland is already imprisoned in another country for a similar offence. This suggests the possibility of an international criminal network.
The current investigation is being conducted by the Serious and Serial Crimes Division of the State Police Criminal Police Directorate. The case has been classified under several articles of the Criminal Code, including the production and distribution of pornographic material depicting human sexual acts with animals, as well as cruel treatment of animals perpetrated by an organised group.
