Cannabis cultivation operation discovered in wardrobe in Ogre: half a kilogram of drugs seized

As reported by Google News LV — Crime (lv), police discovered a cannabis cultivation operation in a flat in Ogre city, which was set up inside a wardrobe with special lighting, ventilation and foil. During the search, approximately 500 grammes of dried cannabis were seized, one seedling, ten packets of seeds and 14 empty packets.

State police officers received information on 19 August that a man was cultivating cannabis at his place of residence in Ogre. The following day — 20 August — officers from the Riga Regional Department's East Pierīga District Office arrived at the specified address and carried out a search.

The seized substances were sent for expert examination to confirm their composition. A man born in 1991 was detained on suspicion of a criminal offence and has no previous contact with police.

In connection with the incident, criminal proceedings were initiated under Article 256, Part One of the Criminal Law — for unauthorised sowing or cultivation of plants containing narcotic or psychotropic substances — and Article 253, Part One — for unauthorised possession, transportation or transfer of narcotic substances without the intention of selling them. A security measure not involving deprivation of liberty was applied to the detainee.

The State Police remind that no person is considered guilty until their guilt has been proven in the manner established by law.
