Police in Ogre have discovered an unusual cannabis cultivation cabinet fitted with ventilation. A man with no previous police record has been detained.

Ogre police uncover cannabis cultivation cabinet

According to Google News LV — Crime (lv), on 19 August 2024 the State Police received information about a man growing cannabis at his residence in Ogre city.

The following day, officers from the Eastern Pierīga District of the Riga Regional Division arrived at the specified address and conducted a search. During the search, approximately 500 grammes of dried plant material believed to be cannabis was seized, along with ten seed packets and 14 empty packets. A cabinet equipped with ventilation and foil served as the growing environment — one cannabis plant was also found inside it. The seized material has been sent for examination.

In connection with this case, a man born in 1991 with no previous police contact has been detained. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against him under Article 256, paragraph one of the Criminal Law — for unauthorised cultivation of plants containing narcotic substances — and Article 253, paragraph one — for unauthorised possession of narcotic substances without intent to distribute them.

A security measure not involving deprivation of liberty has been imposed on the man.

The State Police remind that no person is considered guilty until their guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law.
