An unauthorised person entered the shopping centre "Rimi Bauska" on Pionieru Street during the night from Wednesday to Thursday, 9 July, shortly after midnight. This was reported by State Police representative Rūta Strautniece-Apaļā.
Police have initiated a criminal investigation. An inquiry is currently underway to establish the details of what occurred and to identify potential suspects. The service is not providing further information at this time due to the ongoing investigation.
"Rimi Latvia" press representative Everita Bičkova stated that losses had occurred in the centre's tenant shops. The Rimi store itself remained undamaged and continues to operate normally.
Bičkova noted that the facility is equipped with video surveillance and alarm systems. The break-in was captured on camera and police were called immediately.
It is not yet known which specific shops were targeted, what goods were stolen, or the extent of the losses. This information will be clarified as the investigation progresses.
Reinis Ikaunieks, head of Bauska Municipality Police, explained that at the time his service's patrols were in Stelpes parish assisting in the search for a missing woman. Police were notified of the incident and the State Police took over the case.
Ikaunieks emphasised that municipal police regularly patrol Bauska's centre during night hours. He expressed the view that isolated incidents do not mean the city is dangerous.
