Neurologist accused of sexual acts against nine patients in Riga
The State Police has handed over a criminal case to the Prosecutor's Office against a neurologist who is suspected of sexual acts against nine patients between 2020 and 2024.

The State Police completed its investigation this week in a criminal case concerning a neurologist doctor's sexual conduct towards patients, reports Google News LV — Crime (lv). Nine women are recognised as victims in the criminal proceedings.
The women told police that the doctor, during consultations whilst using hypnosis methods, carried out sexual conduct against their will through physical contact with their body in order to satisfy his sexual desire. The crimes were committed by exploiting the patients' trust and helpless state.
The criminal proceedings were initiated on 22 January 2025 at the Riga Region Administration of the State Police, Riga East Administration, under the first and second parts of Section 160 of the Criminal Law. All reports concerning the conduct of the particular doctor were combined into a single investigation.
Altogether nine victim women indicated similar circumstances. The crimes were committed during the period from 2020 to 2024. Careful investigation in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office, including the appointment of expert examinations, made it possible to obtain a sufficient body of evidence, despite several years having passed since the first episodes.
In September 2025, the man was recognised as a suspect. Security measures were applied to him — a prohibition from approaching certain persons and a prohibition from holding a particular office.
On 25 August 2026, the State Police handed over the criminal proceedings to the Riga East Prosecutor's Office, proposing that criminal proceedings be initiated against the suspect.
The Police express their gratitude to the Health Inspectorate, as well as to journalists from the Baltic investigative journalism centre "Re:Baltica" and Latvian Television for sharing important information during the investigation.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt in committing a criminal offence is proven in the manner prescribed by law.
