Intoxicated youth flees from police with knife in Rēzekne

On Sunday last week, police in Rēzekne detained a minor who was under the influence of alcohol and was holding a knife in his hand. The news agency Apollo learned of the incident from the State Police (VP).

At approximately 20.20, VP officers on patrol noticed that several people were trying to attract the attention of law enforcement near a fast-food establishment. Upon arriving at the scene, officers established that an aggressive young person was behaving disruptively in the establishment, who was possibly intoxicated, and was holding a knife.

Upon seeing the officers, the youth began to flee and did not comply with the lawful order to stop. The youth was nevertheless detained and placed in a service vehicle for identification purposes. A breath alcohol concentration test confirmed that he had been under the influence of alcohol.

In connection with the incident, the VP has initiated two administrative breach proceedings: one for non-compliance with the lawful orders of police officers, and another for being under the influence of alcohol in a public place.
