On 7 June, police registered a report of an assault in Ogre on Rīgas Street. Initially, it was reported that an unknown man had physically attacked a young woman and taken her bag. The bag allegedly contained personal items, 47 euros for personal use, as well as 5,810 euros that belonged to the employer and was to be deposited in a bank. This information was circulated in the media, including Jauns.lv.

Law enforcement immediately launched a search operation and apprehended one man born in 1999. However, it soon emerged that the entire robbery had been fabricated.

The investigation revealed that an employee born in 1996 had previously taken 5,810 euros belonging to the company. To conceal this breach, she decided to stage a robbery. The woman turned to a friend, a man born in 1991, who in turn invited a younger acquaintance – a man born in 1999 – to participate. For 200 euros, this person agreed to pose as the robber.

The criminal investigation continues to establish the roles and responsibility of all those involved.
