Police have discovered that a robbery reported in Ogre was actually staged to conceal the embezzlement of nearly six thousand euros. Three people were involved in the scheme.

Officers from the Eastern Rīga Police District have established that a robbery reported in Ogre was in fact a staged scheme designed to conceal the misappropriation of company funds.
On 7 June this year, police received a complaint about an assault on a young woman near Vecupe Beach on Rīgas Street. It was initially reported that an unknown assailant had forcibly taken a bag from the victim containing personal items, 47 euros in cash, and 5,810 euros in company money that was to be deposited at a bank. This information prompted the initiation of a robbery investigation.
During investigative measures, operational staff detained one man born in 1999. As the investigation continued, it transpired that the assault had never occurred and everything had been pre-arranged.
Investigators established that a woman born in 1996, who was employed by the company, had previously taken the aforementioned 5,810 euros. To cover up this action, she devised a fake robbery. The woman sought help from an acquaintance, a man born in 1991, who in turn found another participant – a young man born in 1999. For a payment of 200 euros, this person agreed to take part in the staged incident.
Pre-trial investigation is currently ongoing in the case. The specific role of each person involved is being clarified, and their liability is being assessed. Investigators will later decide on the qualification of the case in accordance with another article of the Criminal Law.
Law enforcement authorities remind that deliberately reporting false facts about a crime and staging a crime not only obstructs police work but also wastes resources and can lead to serious legal consequences for all parties involved.
