Law enforcement officers in Jelgava District have discovered a room in a private house where cannabis plants were cultivated illegally. The detainee has been remanded in custody.

In May, police officers from Zemgale in Ozolniki parish discovered a room in a private house that had been converted into a drug cultivation site. This was reported by tv3.lv.
During a search carried out on 12 May, specialised equipment was seized — a ventilator, light-emitting diodes, a tent and other equipment intended for plant care. Ten plants resembling cannabis were also found, as well as brown-green plant material and seeds.
Laboratory examination confirmed that the ten wet plants with a total weight of 3,860 grams contain the psychoactive substance tetrahydrocannabinol. One kilogram of dried cannabis was found in three bags. Test results for the remaining confiscated material have not yet been received.
Two days later, on 14 May, a man was detained on suspicion of illegal drug trafficking. The court decided to remand him in custody. The detainee had no previous contact with law enforcement.
Police have initiated a criminal case for the illegal cultivation of plants and for the accumulation of a substantial quantity of drugs for sale. This violation can be punished with imprisonment of up to 8 years. An investigation is currently underway before trial.
