Five traffic police officers arrested over bribery from foreign truck drivers
The Internal Security Bureau detained five State Police officials at the end of August who had accepted bribes from foreign drivers in vehicle transport supervision. Two have been remanded in custody.

The Internal Security Bureau detained five State Police Response Administration traffic safety supervision department officials at the end of August. Apollo reports that the ISB suspects them of accepting bribes from foreign cargo vehicle drivers in exchange for not drawing up administrative violations.
During investigative measures, the ISB found and seized money in various foreign currencies totalling several thousand euros.
All five police officers have been assigned suspect status. Three officials have been ordered non-custodial security measures, including a ban on employment. Two officials have been remanded in custody by the court.
Within the framework of pre-trial investigation, the possible involvement of these officials in document forgery in the field of vehicle transport supervision is also being assessed.
State Police Chief General Armands Ruks announced that the criminal offence was discovered in cooperation with the police themselves. "There is no place in the State Police for corrupt individuals and perpetrators of other types of crimes. We continue to purify ourselves so that the State Police is staffed only by absolutely honest, professional and cooperation-oriented officers," he wrote on social media, calling on the public to report specific facts indicating possible police violations.
According to calculations by the LETA news agency, so far this year a total of 24 State Police officials have been detained for various crimes. Last year a total of nine State Police officials were detained, one of them for offences of a corrupt nature. Two years earlier, 11 officials were detained, including one for corruption.
