Police foil organised prison attack: three arrested in Latvia
State Police on 4 June arrested two men who arrived at the victim's residence with metal pipes. The attack was organised from prison by a convicted man born in 1982.

Google News LV — Crime (lv) reports that State Police have foiled the plans of an organised group — to rob and cause serious bodily harm to a man, with the crime being directed from prison by an incarcerated man.
The investigation began on 22 April this year, when law enforcement officers began checking for a possible amphetamine storage and distribution in an organised group, as well as the use of unauthorised communication devices in a place of detention.
During the investigation, it was established that an organised group — three persons — was preparing in June to rob a person and cause him serious bodily harm. The crime's organiser is a man born in 1982, who is serving a sentence in prison for illegal drug trafficking, unauthorised purchase and storage of firearms, and driving a vehicle under the influence of narcotics.
While in detention, he gave clear instructions to two accomplices at large — men born in 1999 and 1984 — that the victim should be caused serious bodily harm by "hitting the head" and "breaking". The organiser also passed on all information he knew about the victim, including his residential address and daily routine. Police have established that the motives were personal revenge and greed, and the organiser knew the threatened person well.
On 4 June, police officers arrested both group members at large. Upon arriving at the person's residence, one of the men put on a face mask, while the other prepared two metal pipes and moved to the rear seat of the car with them, concealing themselves behind tinted glass. Police officers arrested both persons immediately to eliminate any risk to the life and health of the threatened person.
On 5 June, both members were recognised as suspects for preparation of robbery committed by an organised group. The organiser was additionally charged with bringing in or storing unauthorised communication devices in a place of detention. Another group member was given suspect status in connection with the unauthorised purchase and storage of narcotic or psychotropic substances.
By decision of the investigating judge on 5 June, both arrested group members at large were subjected to a security measure — remand in custody.
All three members of the organised group have previously come to the attention of police in connection with drug trafficking, robbery, causing bodily harm, and other crimes.
