In February, law enforcement began investigating a case concerning the illegal circulation of prohibited substances. The investigation revealed that three individuals had jointly engaged in the storage, sale and production of narcotics and psychotropic preparations.

On 13 February, operational services — including the Special Tasks Battalion and unit "OMEGA" — detained all three suspects. This occurred at the moment when one of them was handing over a kilogramme of cocaine in a Pierīga forest, using a hiding place.

Later, searches were conducted at eleven addresses. These resulted in the confiscation of several dozen kilogrammes of narcotics, including cocaine, marijuana, amphetamine, mephedrone and ecstasy. The men had themselves manufactured amphetamine in apartments.

The detainees were born in 1995, 1997 and 1999. Law enforcement authorities had previously had no contact with them. Two days later, a court imposed pre-trial detention on all three.

The case was initiated under the Criminal Code provisions concerning the production, acquisition, accumulation and transportation of prohibited substances for the purpose of sale, when committed by an organised group or when the act is carried out on a large scale. This violation carries a prison sentence of between five and fifteen years.
