The Internal Security Bureau has requested that criminal prosecution be initiated against a State Police employee who, using his official position, unlawfully obtained and disclosed personal information from state registers to others.

The Internal Security Bureau has approached the Prosecutor's Office with a request to initiate criminal prosecution against an employee of the Main Criminal Police Department of the State Police, reports LETA.
Following an inspection conducted by the bureau, it was revealed that the suspect used his authority to access a state information system containing vehicle registration data from the Road Transport Administration and the details of vehicle owners. He used such access without lawful basis. The police officer subsequently disclosed the information obtained about specific individuals to a person outside the service.
In mid-June, the Internal Security Bureau sent the case materials to the investigating prosecutor's office for it to make a decision on further action. The suspect has been subject to liberty-preserving security measures, including a prohibition from holding certain positions.
A criminal case has been initiated for disclosure of official information that is not a state secret in a state institution.
