Attacks by teenage gangs in Riga city centre parks: police identify perpetrators
Several attacks have been recorded in Riga city centre parks in which Russian-speaking teenagers assault peers. The State Police have begun identifying those involved.
Police begin establishing identities of teenagers who attacked in Riga parks
The State Police have launched "necessary procedures" to identify individuals who attacked people in Riga city centre parks, according to Google News LV — Crime (lv).
Several videos distributed on social media this weekend show groups of Russian-speaking teenagers attacking and kicking peers in Riga city centre parks.
In one video recorded by a canal near Riga Central Railway Station, a group of approximately ten people—boys and girls—is visible, with some attacking three individuals. The victims are thrown to the ground and kicked, while other gang members watch.
A second video was filmed at the corner of Vērmanes Garden, near the Ministry of Justice. In it, a shaven-headed teenager, assisted by another member, strikes and kicks a girl, whilst others simply watch or film what is happening.
Both attacks occurred during relatively daylight hours. Users who reposted the videos on social media noted that the teenagers themselves originally posted them online and that there are several such videos. People have called for both the State Police and Riga Municipal Police to become involved.
The State Police have confirmed that they are aware of these incidents and have stated that "law enforcement officers are conducting necessary procedures to clarify the identities of the individuals involved".
