In the night of 22 June, a minor gained access to a stranger's car near Rēzekne and drove away. Police found him several hours later, but the young man refused to stop and attempted to escape.

In the night of 22 June, the State Police received a report that an unknown young man had entered the grounds of a private house in Sakstagals, Rēzekne municipality, and driven away in an Audi parked there. Law enforcement officers immediately began searching for the missing vehicle.
After less than three hours, around 1 a.m., a police unit spotted the sought-after car in Ciskādi, heading towards Ozolmuiža. Officers switched on flashing lights and sounded sirens, demanding that the driver stop, but he continued driving and attempted to flee.
As a result of the pursuit, law enforcement officers managed to stop the vehicle. It turned out that a young man born in 2009 was at the wheel. The investigation revealed that this teenager's name was already known to police — he had previously been caught driving a car while intoxicated.
A criminal case has now been initiated against him for unlawful seizure of a vehicle, as well as for failing to comply with police officers' lawful demands to stop. He also faces liability for evading punishment.
The law provides for the theft of a vehicle a prison sentence of up to five years, temporary deprivation of liberty, probation, community work, or a fine. For non-compliance with police demands and evasion of punishment — deprivation of liberty of up to one year or one of the other aforementioned penalties.
It should be noted that the suspect is presumed innocent until the court has found him guilty.
