A man has been arrested in central Riga near a pre-school facility after engaging in sexually provocative behaviour on the street in the presence of children.

A man has been arrested in central Riga near one of the kindergartens after engaging in sexually provocative behaviour in a public place on the street in front of a pre-school education facility, with young children present as witnesses, according to TVNET.
On 1 July, a witness contacted the State Police, reporting a man who was behaving indecently in an open place on the street, directing attention towards the windows of a pre-school education facility. The incident was also observed by the children themselves.
Officers from the Riga North precinct travelled to the scene and requested the suspect provide identification. However, the man refused to comply and attempted to flee, but was caught nearby and taken to a police station.
The arrested man was born in 1983 and had previously come to the attention of police for crimes against property.
A criminal case has been initiated at the police based on a provision of the Criminal Law regarding attempted indecent conduct involving a minor. Such an offence is punishable by imprisonment of up to seven years and probation supervision of up to five years.
Additionally, an administrative violation case has been opened against the man for resisting the lawful demands of police officers. The suspect has been remanded in custody as a precautionary measure.
