Criminal case opened in Riga near University of Latvia over alleged sexual assault

On the evening of 28 June, a woman walking home through central Riga in a square near the University of Latvia encountered two men whose appearance resembled residents of the South Asian region. On social media platform X, she reported that the strangers attempted to touch her, and one of them exposed his genitals. The victim was able to defend herself until a passerby came to her aid.

Following the victim's report, the State Police proceeded to the scene of the incident, contacted the woman and filed a report. A criminal case has now been opened under the provisions of the Criminal Law concerning offences against decency and sexual integrity.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence and attempting to establish the identity of the suspects. Once new facts emerge, the police will inform the public.

Law enforcement officials urge residents to report any suspected violations immediately.
