Woman in Riga attempted to spray pepper gas at police officer — was harmed by it herself

In Riga, in the Vecmīlgrāvs district, a woman has been detained after attempting to spray pepper gas in a police officer's face whilst resisting — however she was harmed by it herself. This is reported by TVNET, citing Riga Municipal Police.
On the night of 18 May, shortly after midnight, employees of the Video Surveillance Centre noticed a BMW motor vehicle around which several persons, possibly in a state of alcoholic intoxication, were gathered. When the vehicle began to move, a police team was dispatched to the scene.
Officers in an operational vehicle blocked the road. The driver ignored the barrier, continued driving along the pavement and later fled into the woods. Officers managed to catch the person after a brief period.
During the detention, the woman removed a pepper gas canister from her clothing pocket and attempted to spray its contents in the police officer's face. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the officer detained her.
Shortly after, law enforcement officers noticed that the detained woman had tears in her eyes and had difficulty breathing — signs indicating that she herself had been harmed by the sprayed gas. Both an emergency medical services team and a State Police unit were called to the scene, which took over further procedural actions.
