Border Guard Charged with Accepting Bribes from Cargo Transporters
The Internal Security Bureau has recommended that the prosecutor charge a State Border Guard employee who accepted money to facilitate cargo vehicles crossing the border into Russia.
Internal Security Bureau Recommends Charging Border Guard for Accepting Bribes
A State Border Guard employee removed from duty could face criminal charges for accepting money as a bribe from a cargo transport company. The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has sent materials to the prosecutor for a decision to be made on the matter.
During the investigation, it was established that the border guard, whilst performing his official duties, received financial benefit from representatives of a cargo transport company. In return, he promised to ensure faster movement of cargo vehicles across the state border to the east, bypassing long queues.
A criminal case has also been opened against three citizens who are suspected of offering bribes as part of an organised group.
Representatives of the IDB told the LETA news agency that during the investigation, evidence was obtained confirming the official's unlawful conduct.
