On Monday evening, 22 June, a man born in 1968 lost his life in a fatal accident involving a quad bike in Zaņa Parish, Saldus District, according to 1188.lv, citing the State Police.
The man lost control of the quad bike and overturned. He died at the scene of the accident. A passenger suffered injuries and received medical assistance.
Over the past 24 hours, 117 traffic accidents were recorded on Latvian roads, affecting a total of 12 people. Among those injured were two pedestrians, one cyclist and two electric scooter riders.
Nine drivers were apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol. Four of them were caught in the Riga region, three in Latgale, and one each in Zemgale and Kurzeme. Administrative violation proceedings were initiated against five, while criminal proceedings were initiated against four. In no case will the vehicle be confiscated.
Police also apprehended 256 speeding offenders and four aggressive drivers.
