Police in northern Vidzeme have uncovered a gang that stole diesel fuel and tools from farms in spring. Among the perpetrators are minors.
Seven men arrested over thefts in Valmiera and Limbaži districts
Law enforcement officers in northern Vidzeme have uncovered a criminal group that systematically stole from rural properties in spring. Seven people are suspected of thefts committed in Valmiera and Limbaži districts between March and May.
Police investigators established that the perpetrators carefully surveyed the territory before committing the crimes, inspected properties and kept watch over them. Diesel fuel was stolen primarily from agricultural and forestry vehicles. Victims also lost garden equipment and tools — hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, angle grinders, high-pressure washers, sets of keys and spare parts.
The investigation revealed that the gang included two minors, five young people under 19 years of age, and one 38-year-old man. Members agreed with each other and divided roles. They used the stolen fuel for their own needs, but handed over the rest of the goods to pawn shops or sold them on social media.
Currently, eight criminal proceedings have been initiated under Article 175, Part 3 of the Criminal Law — for theft committed by a group of people following prior agreement. The investigation continues to establish possible connections with other crimes and to identify all victims.
Law enforcement officers call on residents who suffered from similar thefts in Valmiera or Limbaži district between March and May and have not yet contacted police to get in touch by calling 112 or by visiting their nearest police station.
