Three Riga police officers could face charges over improper use of electric shock device
The Internal Security Bureau (IDB) has requested the initiation of criminal prosecution against three State Police officers from the Riga region. They are suspected of abuse of official authority for using an electric shock device against a detainee without justification.
During the IDB investigation, evidence was obtained showing that these officers, whilst performing their duties, repeatedly used excessive physical force against the detainee. They also applied the electric shock device without lawful grounds.
All three suspects have been prohibited from holding office in the police. They have also been barred from leaving Latvia.
