The Internal Security Bureau has completed its investigation and sent the case to the prosecutor's office against a Riga region police official who unlawfully used electric shock on detainees in two separate incidents.

The Internal Security Bureau (ISB) has completed its investigation and submitted the criminal case to the prosecutor's office to initiate criminal proceedings against a State Police officer. The official is suspected of exceeding his official authority by violently using an electric shock device against detainees.

The ISB has submitted the case to the prosecutor's office for investigation of criminal offences in state institutions' service. The suspect works in the State Police's Riga Region Directorate.

During the investigation, evidence was obtained that the police officer used an electric shock device against detained persons in two separate incidents whilst performing his official duties. In both cases, this occurred without legal grounds and without prior warning.

The suspect has been prohibited from holding a specific position and banned from leaving the country.
