On 21 May, the State Security Service (VDD) approached the prosecutor's office, requesting the initiation of criminal proceedings against four people for the deliberate arson of railway infrastructure objects in Latvia, carried out in the interests of a foreign state, reports LSM.
Investigators believe that the detained persons deliberately set fire to railway objects, acting on behalf of a foreign state. Such conduct could be qualified as treason or terrorism, which carries very serious penalties.
The VDD reported on this matter on 26 May. Further information about the detained persons, their citizenship, the possible foreign state on whose behalf the actions were taken, and the specific arson incidents is not being disclosed at this time. The criminal case will still be submitted for court proceedings.
