The State Revenue Service (VID) has imposed a significant financial penalty on a former Liepāja city council deputy and surgeon at a local medical institution, who had long concealed her true income and spent large sums of money at gambling halls in Riga.
The woman, who worked as a surgeon at Liepāja Medical Centre alongside her political activities, drew the attention of the Revenue Service with a substantial discrepancy between her official income and actual expenditure. The Service's analysis revealed that a difference of several hundred thousand euros existed between her declared financial income and actual spending.
During the investigation, the Revenue Service examined the woman's bank statements and digital financial trails. These data made it possible to uncover the true flow of money and determine the amount of unpaid taxes. Although there was initially a legal dispute, the financial documents provided sufficient evidence.
The matter concerns the period from 2022 to 2023, when the person in question simultaneously fulfilled her duties on Liepāja Council and worked in the medical field. Various discrepancies began appearing in the Revenue Service's databases, prompting officials to examine the situation in greater detail.
The fine, exceeding 400,000 euros, has been imposed for income concealment and non-payment of taxes. This case demonstrates how modern digital tracking methods and bank data analysis allow the detection of even carefully hidden financial violations.
