Google News LV — Crime (lv) reports that the State Police detained a person on 13 August who attacked the duty doctor on 6 August in the admission department of Jēkabpils Regional Hospital.
At 21.06, police received information that two men and three women had arrived at the facility, with one of the women suffering from an injured hand. The individuals behaved inadequately and disrupted the institution's operations. The duty doctor, wishing to protect himself and his colleagues, initially refused to provide medical assistance without police present. One of the men did not accept this decision calmly — he attacked the doctor and caused him bodily injury.
The suspect, a man born in 1976, had left the scene before police arrived and continued to evade the authorities. He was detained on 13 August and recognised as a suspect in criminal proceedings under Article 231, Part 2 of the Criminal Law for hooliganism involving bodily injury to the victim. Such a criminal offence carries a maximum sentence of up to five years' imprisonment, short-term imprisonment, probation supervision, community service, or a fine.
The man was imposed a security measure not involving deprivation of liberty, including a ban from approaching the doctor and a ban from leaving the country.
A woman born in 1982 has had two administrative violation cases opened against her. Her breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.52 per mille, and a case was opened under Article 10 of the Administrative Offences Law for being in a public place in such a state of intoxication that disturbs public order or safety — the penalty for this is a warning or a fine of up to 350 euros. A second administrative violation case was opened against the same woman under Article 11, Part 1 for disturbing public order by violating generally accepted behavioural standards and endangering the institution's operations — the maximum penalty for an individual in this case is a warning or a fine of up to 500 euros.
The State Police reminds that no person is considered guilty until their guilt for committing a criminal offence is proven in the manner provided for by law.
