Arrest in Casablanca of man subject to international notice
Elements of the urban security force of the economic metropolis proceeded on Thursday to the arrest of a French citizen. This operation was made possible through operational coordination between investigators from the district and agents of the DGST, as reported by H24info.
The man in question was being pursued by magistrates in France who had issued a globally-enforceable arrest warrant against him. Checks made in the registers of the international police organisation confirmed that he was indeed an active target being sought by the National Central Bureau based in Paris.
The charges against this suspect concerned multiple cases of fraud, embezzlement of means of transport, receiving stolen goods and commercialisation of motorised vehicles resulting from criminal offences, as well as laundering of funds of criminal origin. French judges had pronounced a final conviction against him, and the coercive measure was aimed at having him serve the sentence imposed.
This case illustrates the agreements on security and judicial cooperation existing between Rabat and Paris, which facilitate the location and handover to competent authorities of fugitives wanted on a global basis.
