Twelve officers belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie are having their case revisited before the magistrates of the El Jadida court of appeal. This court has begun a new examination of the file that had resulted in these uniformed men being acquitted at first instance and then cleared again on appeal.
The country's highest court, the Court of Cassation, has indeed invalidated the acquittal verdict pronounced in the second instance. This cassation decision now compels the appeal court judges to re-examine all the facts alleged against the twelve defendants.
The file, widely publicised under the name "Hamdoun network", involves law enforcement personnel. The annulment by the supreme court of the judgment that had ended the prosecution obliges the justice system to resume examination of the dispute from the start of the appeal phase.
