A law enforcement operation in Essaouira has resulted in the seizure of more than 11 tonnes of cannabis resin concealed in vehicles with falsified registration plates, as part of an international drug trafficking investigation.

Security services have thwarted an attempt to illegally export narcotics in the coastal province of Essaouira. The seizure amounts to a record quantity of 11 tonnes and 755 kilogrammes of cannabis resin, concealed in transport vehicles.
According to an official statement from the DGSN cited by SNRTnews, the operation mobilised local forces and units of the Royal Gendarmerie. Three utility vehicles with forged registration plates were spotted and then tracked from a rural locality on the outskirts of the city of Alizés. The drivers managed to escape, abandoning their vehicles.
Inspection of the abandoned vans revealed packets of cannabis, weighing a total of 11,755 kg. Officials also recovered approximately ten counterfeit registration plates.
In parallel, in the locality of Sidi Kaouki, a fourth vehicle was apprehended by Royal Gendarmerie personnel. This vehicle is believed to be linked to the same criminal organisation.
Judicial police investigators are conducting thorough enquiries under the authority of the competent prosecutor's office. Their mission consists of dismantling the networks associated with this trafficking and locating the fugitives involved in this case.
