A tourist holding dual Franco-Algerian nationality has been imprisoned for twelve months by the criminal court in Marrakech. The sentence was handed down on 22 June 2026. In addition to the loss of liberty, she must pay a financial penalty of two thousand dirhams and bear the costs of the proceedings.
The case began when she was stopped on 13 June at the airport of the ochre city. Held in custody pending trial, the defendant — known on the internet under the alias Y.N. and aged according to the initials O.Y. — had distributed controversial video content.
In this recording, she criticised local traffic patterns and the repressive methods used by officers regarding traffic law. She drew an unflattering comparison between drivers from the two sides of the Maghreb. More seriously, she suggested that certain police officials were engaged in extortion at the expense of motorists.
The magistrates found against her for the dissemination of false information intended to harm the honour of others, as well as insulting a legally constituted institution. All costs were borne by her.
