The prosecutor's office at the Casablanca criminal court issued a clarification, relayed by Atalayar, outlining the circumstances of his detention. The incriminated content allegedly damaged the reputation of individuals and organisations, in addition to remarks deemed detrimental to judges.
In accordance with the prosecutor's directives, the individual was taken to the National Criminal Investigation Brigade premises in Casablanca. This body is responsible for judicial investigation. He was held in provisional detention to be questioned under the supervision of prosecutor's representatives, with all legal safeguards and the benefit of the presumption of innocence.
In due course, he will be brought before the prosecutor to decide on any potential criminal proceedings. Officials of the judicial system recalled that this measure constitutes standard treatment, motivated by complaints lodged by natural and legal persons claiming to have suffered harm from writings containing false allegations and unfounded accusations.
According to these officials, this action does not constitute a challenge to freedom of expression, but rather a response to reports from victims. The ongoing proceedings are at the preliminary stage, where the courts will examine all evidence and materials to determine whether offences have been committed.
