On Monday evening, in the Kénitra region, a unit of the Royal Gendarmerie had to fire warning shots during a tense operation. The events took place in Ben Mansour, where approximately two hundred people from the Riyah Lqabliya settlement had mobilised to block agricultural activities on two estates and had set fire to an excavator.
According to information reported by H24info, the patrol sent to the scene came under attack from particularly agitated individuals. They surrounded the soldiers, threw stones at them and attempted to assault them physically, damaging their vehicle in the process. Facing threats, the gendarmes then fired into the air to extricate themselves and bring the situation under control.
During this operation, two participants in the gathering were slightly injured by fragments of projectiles. They were taken to Azzamouri Provincial Hospital in Kénitra; their condition is not life-threatening. On the side of law enforcement, two officers were also injured, one more seriously than the other. All were treated at the same hospital. Additionally, a civil protection vehicle was damaged.
The group was eventually dispersed. The competent prosecutor's office initiated an investigation to shed full light on these events, identify those involved and establish the chain of responsibility.
