A police officer was killed after a fugitive from justice opened fire on him with a hunting rifle during an arrest operation in Imzouren. The suspect, aged 25, was arrested and referred for judicial investigation.

According to yabiladi.com, a police officer was killed on Monday after being shot with a hunting rifle during a security operation targeting the arrest of a fugitive from justice in the Imzouren area of Al Hoceima province.
The suspect, aged 25, was the subject of 20 national search warrants due to his alleged involvement in serious crimes, including drug trafficking, attempted premeditated murder with intent and malice, and forming a criminal gang, as well as kidnapping and violence offences.
The operation involved members of the gang-suppression unit of the Al Hoceima regional security directorate, alongside a unit of the Royal Gendarmerie. When security forces attempted to arrest the suspect, he resisted violently and opened fire on elements of the national security and the Royal Gendarmerie. The police officer sustained severe injuries and died while being transported to hospital, and a technician responsible for forced entry was also wounded during the same confrontation.
Security forces ultimately managed to neutralise the threat posed by the suspect and apprehend him. He was subsequently referred for judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution office, with the aim of establishing the full circumstances of the case and determining the criminal acts attributed to him.
Ongoing investigations are also seeking to ascertain whether the suspect is connected to drug and narcotics smuggling networks, and any links he may have to violent criminal organisations.
Following this tragedy, the Director General of the National Security and Oversight of National Territory decided to grant a posthumous exceptional promotion to the deceased officer, who was serving as a member of the gang-suppression unit of the regional security directorate in Al Hoceima.
