A dual Franco-Algerian national visiting Morocco was sentenced to one year of effective imprisonment and a fine of 2,000 dirhams by the criminal court of Marrakech. The verdict was pronounced on Monday 22 June 2026, according to the website Médias24.
The defendant, identified by the initials O.Y. and active on digital platforms under the pseudonym Y.N., was arrested on 13 June at the airport of the ochre city. She was subsequently remanded in custody pending trial.
The dispute originated in a video clip shared online in which the defendant criticised driving habits in Marrakech and the attitude of officers tasked with enforcing traffic regulations. In the clip, she contrasted the behaviour of drivers on both sides of the Mediterranean. She also suggested that certain police officials were appropriating funds collected during road checks.
The court found her guilty of spreading false allegations damaging the honour of others, as well as insulting a legally constituted institution. Court costs were imposed on her.
