Brazilian Man Arrested at Malta Airport with Suspected Cocaine

A 23-year-old Brazilian man was arrested at Malta International Airport after police allegedly found approximately one kilogramme of a substance suspected to be cocaine hidden with cider.

According to police, the arrest came following a joint operation based on intelligence that involved various sections of the Malta Police Force, which identified the suspect as having attempted to import a substantial quantity of drugs into Malta.

The man arrived in Malta on a flight from Barcelona during the night between Friday and Saturday. After entering the arrivals hall, he was stopped by police officers and searched.

During the search, officers noticed something suspicious under his shirt. They allegedly discovered a package taped to his body containing approximately one kilogramme of a substance suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately €125,000.

The man is being held in police custody and is expected to be charged in court today at around 11am before Magistrate Dr Tanya Sammut, where he will face accusations related to the alleged importation of drugs.
