Julian Vella, 45, from Bengħajsa, has been given a suspended sentence of 18 months' imprisonment for four years after he admitted to the charges in court.
Vella pleaded guilty to threatening and insulting his ex-wife through voice messages sent between 3 and 4 June. In one of the recordings, he allegedly said he would cut the woman into pieces, turn her into minced meat, and feed her to animals. He allegedly also threatened the police, stating that he did not care about the authorities and that he would kill the police if there were charges against him.
The threats occurred after the children's school informed the couple that one of the children had been vaccinated and needed to go home. The woman later filed a report with the police stating that Vella had harassed her and threatened to kill her and the children if she was careless.
The court, presided over by Magistrate Nadia Helen Vella, issued a protection order in favour of the victim. The prosecution was led by Inspector Audrey Micallef, whilst Silvan Pulis was the defence. Vella was also convicted and fined €1,000.
