Man from Paola jailed for 18 months for cocaine possession and heroin trafficking
A 35-year-old man from Paola was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment after he admitted before the court that he had cocaine and was selling heroin in San Ġiljan.
Christopher Briffa was accused of having cocaine on 7 May in circumstances indicating it was not exclusively for his own use. The offence occurred in an area normally frequented by young people.
He was also accused of selling heroin on the same day, as well as in the days, weeks or months prior, and of breaching other sentences imposed by the court.
Briffa admitted the charges before Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo, who when imposing the sentence took into consideration his history of drug-related offences.
The court noted that despite having many opportunities for rehabilitation, he failed to change.
As a result, the magistrate imposed an effective sentence of 18 months imprisonment and a fine of €500. The case was investigated by Inspector Pier Guido Saliba.
