A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty to charges after he allegedly emerged with a screwdriver and began threatening the manager of HSBC bank in Ħal Żurrieq when he was not allowed to withdraw more money than his account limit.

A 23-year-old man pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him after he allegedly used a screwdriver to threaten the manager of HSBC bank at the Ħal Żurrieq branch.
According to a report from Times of Malta, the incident occurred on 17 June at approximately 12:45pm. Police were called to the bank after members of the public reported a man standing outside the bank shouting threats whilst holding a screwdriver in his hand.
Witnesses heard the man repeatedly shouting in a loud voice: "I will cut you, I will cut you."
The accused, whose identity cannot be published due to a court order related to mental health issues, had gone to the bank to withdraw an amount of money that exceeded the limit on his account.
When the branch manager refused the request, the man allegedly became aggressive and began making threats of retaliation.
After leaving the bank, the accused went to his mother's house. The court heard that the branch manager subsequently phoned the man's mother to inform her of the incident.
Whilst the conversation was taking place between them, the accused allegedly grabbed the phone and began threatening to kill the manager.
He then returned to the bank armed with a screwdriver and continued shouting threats outside the building. The man pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him.
The defence lawyers requested a pre-sentencing report, a request which was accepted by the court.
Until sentencing is handed down, the accused was granted bail on condition that he resides with his parents, signs the bail book at a police station three times per week, and provides personal security of €7,000.
An order of protection was also issued in favour of the victim.
The prosecution was handled by Inspector Andrew Agius Bonello. Lawyers Franco Debono and Silvan Pulis appeared for the accused.
