A 25-year-old Italian man was arrested during a police operation targeting an alleged drug-trafficking network.

The arrest came following investigations and continuous surveillance by police officers who had been monitoring suspected criminal activity related to drug trafficking.

During surveillance carried out in the evening and night hours, officers allegedly observed the suspect meeting another person in the Msida waterfront area.

Shortly after, police intercepted the man whilst he was driving a Skoda car and arrested him.

A subsequent search led to the discovery of a packet containing a pink substance suspected to be pink cocaine.

Other searches at the suspect's residence in Swieki allegedly revealed additional quantities of the same substance, cannabis and a number of objects said to be related to drug-trafficking activities.

The man is currently being held at Floriana police station and was expected to be brought before court this morning before Magistrate Dr Jean Paul Grech.

Police investigations are ongoing.
