Roderick Cassar Given 11 Additional Months in Prison for Domestic Violence
Roderick Cassar, who is serving a 40-year prison sentence for the murder of his wife Bernice, has been given an additional 11 months after three domestic violence cases were heard.

Roderick Cassar, who is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence after admitting that he killed his wife Bernice Cassar, has been given a further sentence of 11 months by Magistrate Lara Lanfranco. The new sentence relates to three domestic violence cases that occurred before the murder.
According to a report from Times of Malta regarding the court hearing, Magistrate Lanfranco made a decision on three cases related to incidents that Bernice had reported in 2022.
Cassar was given three months in prison for an incident that occurred on 8 May 2022, Mother's Day, when he held a knife towards Bernice's throat. He was also given eight months in prison because he had grabbed her and begun threatening to kill her during an argument on 14 July 2022.
In another case relating to an alleged incident that occurred on 31 May 2022, Cassar was acquitted.
Cassar was given a 40-year prison sentence last year after admitting that he killed Bernice by shooting her while she was on her way to work in Korradino on 22 November 2022.
Public concern that arose later revealed that the state had not protected Bernice as it should have, despite various reports and warning signs in the months preceding the murder.
