Teenager assaulted nurse in Bergen and has now been sentenced to imprisonment
A nurse in Bergen has been awarded 15,000 Norwegian kroner in compensation after being subjected to violence at work, according to sykepleien.no.
The incident took place at a health facility in Bergen in December last year. A man in his late teens became aggressive after being refused Valium tablets, according to a ruling handed down by Hordaland district court.
The man went to the duty office and spat the nurse in the face. A scuffle ensued, and the nurse fell to the floor. While he lay on the floor protecting his face with his arms, he was struck several times on the back of the head with a closed fist, according to the ruling.
The nurse was on sick leave for a considerable period and subsequently changed jobs as a result of the psychological strain, according to the court.
The man, who is currently in remand detention, has admitted responsibility for the violence. He has also been ordered to pay the nurse 15,000 kroner in compensation.
"He is naturally very sorry for the consequences this has had for the nurse," wrote the man's defence lawyer, solicitor Jørgen Riple, in an email to sykepleien.no.
For the violence and other matters, the man was sentenced to eleven months in prison. "The ruling has not been appealed and is now final," Riple stated.
